I am a journalist based in New York City specializing in science and culture. My stories have appeared in the New York Times, Odyssey Magazine, Mother Jones Magazine, and Isotope: A Journal of Literary Science and Nature Writing, as well as on the programs Radiolab, Radio OnEarth, and This American Life, among others. My article "The Art is Alive!" was listed as a notable essay in The Best American Essays 2010 and featured in the "In Essence" section of The Wilson Quarterly. I am currently working on a book about a legendary fish in Southeast Asia.

I hold degrees in English literature and journalism from Columbia University where I was awarded a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship. A member of the National Association of Science Writers, I was an NASW Travel Fellow in 2010. Previously I served as an associate editor for philosophy, classics and religion at Oxford University Press. I particularly enjoy writing for young readers and love to speak to students at schools around New York.
